Racial Microaggressions in Latine and Black Communities Workshop

Microaggressions are brief verbal or non-verbal insults towards a disadvantaged group of people. Latines and Black people often experience microaggressions, intentionally or unintentionally, on a daily basis at their workplace, school, and communities. This session considers how microaggressions manifest themselves among Latines and Black folks living in the U.S. and how they affect their mental health.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have

  • Identified the different types of racial microaggressions in their environment
  • Examined the effects of microaggressions on mental health
  • Learned techniques on how to respond when exposed to a microaggression

You took what might seem like a small subject and delved into it from so many angles. It was a totally worthwhile topic and your direction was excellent. You have a gift for leading these types of workshops and conversations.

I appreciate this topic very much. I didn’t realize there were so many different kinds of microaggressions and I had never heard many of the terminology to describe it, so I appreciate you educating me. It was a reflective experience for me since I have both experienced microaggressions and unknowingly/unintentionally done some as well.

You as a facilitator made it a safe space for all of us where we could openly share different views and have discussions even if it was uncomfortable at times.
